Here's a first listen to the new single from Afterlife regular Cassian, his first for the label since March, out August 2nd.
'Dun Dun' is one of those tracks that wastes no time. From the first bar, the kick lands, the bass follows, and the build starts climbing. Cassian works the tension with precision, adding layers and pulling them back just when it feels like the lid's about to blow. It's a peak-time weapon that knows exactly when to breathe.
This is melodic house and techno with a sharp edge. The drums have weight, the synth stabs hit clean and the arrangement keeps its focus on the floor. It arrives as Afterlife Records' eighth Beatport release of 2024, and it holds its own in a run of strong material from the imprint. Cassian's first Afterlife drop since March's 'Genesys II,' this one is built for the big rooms and the long nights.
Innellea is already on it, picking 'Dun Dun' for his 'I Won't Go' chart (HITS HITS HITS, August 2). When the producers are circling it early, you know it's working.
§The desk last covered Afterlife Records on 2 July with Mrak, David Lindmer, 'Their Law'.
